I love West Texas! It is one of my happy places - the absolute emptiness is a complete refreshment for my very busy mind. Over spring break, we made a trip out to Terlingua, and the bluebonnets (the state flower of Texas) were in bloom. They weren't the usual lush, full bluebonnets that Texans are accustomed to seeing on roadsides in the Hill Country. These were definitely a "desert" bloom, kinda lean, scraggly, lanky....a "survivor" flower! But the familiar blue-purple color couldn't be mistaken for anything other than a bluebonnet.
I named the painting "Bright Spot" because the bluebonnets were a bright color contrast to the colors of the surrounding landscape. This particular area is right along the Rio Grande river, near Terlingua, TX.
